This is billed as a free puppet performance like no other. Forget Sooty, Kermit and Big Bird: these marvellous creations are all inventively made using rope and they’re poised to tell you all about the sea, Vikings and many other tales besides!

Are you a big Sewing Bee fan? Is your world one big ball of yarn?
It’s traditional and contemporary crafts ahoy this spring in Dumfries with Threaded Together!
Each group meets at Gracefield and other local venues for practical days, lectures, talks and knowledge-sharing.
You’ll find textile work on display plus group members are on hand to give demonstrations on traditional and cutting-edge techniques.
Over 100 makers have contributed their work for display and sale from across the region

Spring Fling Open Studios 2025

This art and craft open studios extravaganza returns for 2025 boasting over 80 artists and makers. You can explore studios, and participate in workshops.
It’s free entry to most studios but you might have to book some of the workshops.
Galashiels Walking Festival Spring 2025

The good folk of Galashiels and beyond have been walking these routes in celebration of this festival for nine years this year.
You don’t have to be Usain Bolt to enjoy this one either, because the range of walks matches all sorts of fitness levels. Then there’s the jaw-dropping beauty of the backdrop too obvs.
Muck n’ Mac Fest

The Easter Trail will take you through the Winter Garden with loads of fun activities along the way as you and the wee ones hunt for hidden letters, crack the mystery word, and earn a reward!
Then there’s the stunning Castle Gardens to admire as you go, and an Adventure playground should they tire of the trail!
Moniaive Folk Festival

Get ready for three days of Celtic, folk and traditional music, in a family-friendly festival, complete with a craft fair, stages, workshops, and lots to eat and drink!
Headlining this year are Dopesickfly, Junkman’s Choir and Ladies of Midnight Blue.
This year there will be a new stage where young musicians will perform on the Up Yer Airts showcase stage.

Knockengorroch Festival

The theme for 2025, its 27th year, is Survival!
This year’s headliners include:
- African Head Charge – a dub outfit fusing reggae, psychedelia, and experimental soundscapes
- Dub Pistols – ska, reggae, jungle, and punk
- Elephant Sessions – mashing traditional Scottish folk melodies with bassy grooves, funky beats, and electronica.
- Glasgow’s Mungo’s Hi Fi – heavy dub and reggae sound system
Waking the Witch

Witch trials cast a long shadow on Dumfries where, at its height, at least 78 people were accused of witchcraft and sorcery, with many more persecuted in the wider region.
Join Mostly Ghostly as they reawaken a collection of historical accounts, including first-hand dramatisations focussing on alleged witchcraft and its horrific repercussions.
The tour features a special evening visit to the Dumfries Museum and artefacts linked to witch hunting.
