We love a good local spring event here at Heathhall Business Centre, so we’ve curated a few highlights for you. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and had we had the time, we’d have loved to include far more things to do in spring 2026 in Dumfries and Galloway.

Dumfries Comic Con and Toy Fair
Saturday 16 May
10am – 4pm
Loreburn Hall
Comic con is a great opportunity to dress as your fave film, TV or comic characters and really enter into the spirit of it in a family-friendly, fun environment. Loreburn Hall is the perfect setting for the Dumfries Comic Con and Toy Fair.
There’s retro gaming, facepainting, board and car gaming areas, plus you might also be drawn to the movie cars on display.
A must for memorabilia toy collectors – from Stranger Things to Lord of the Rings!
Plant and Bake Sale
25th April
10am to 3pm
All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Challoch, nr Newton Stewart
Spring gives gardeners the green light for go, and if you’re a foodie or lover of floral art too, then this Plant and Bake Sale is right up your garden path.
It’s a plant and seedling sale, both garden and vegetable, not to be missed this spring!
And not only that, but congregational plant whizzes Jackie Shuttleworth and Rosemary Green will be around all day, dispensing their sage advice.
We also have it on good authority that you can sample homemade products prepared by the congregation’s equally talented bakers.
This year’s guest is floral artist Mary-Clare Cornwallis, who’ll be painting, and you can ask her about her techniques and inspiration when Mary-Clare rests those brushes.
TractorFest 2026
Ernespie Farm
Saturday & Sunday 2 & 3 May
10am – 5pm
Castle Douglas
TractorFest 2026 is an epic spring day out for mini farmers and big kids at the wonderful Ernespie Farm near Castle Douglas.
We’re talking shiny mean-machine tractors, farm equipment and vehicles that keep the wheels turning on the farm. And new for 2026, vintage tractors!
It’s a fantastic family day out full of fresh air and fields for as far as the eye can see! Always lots to see and do closer to home on the farm, too.
Test your knowledge, and grab some prizes for your efforts!
Stitch in Time
Thursday 7 May

Whithorn
Click-clack those heels and prepare to be transported back in time to the fascinating lost knitting songs of WWI and WWII from the UK, Canada, America, and France.
During the two World Wars, millions of women knitted for the soldiers and a matter of days after the first bullet was fired, dozens of knitting-themed songs started to appear all over the place.
After the war, these songs were lost, and incredibly, many have not seen the light of day for more than a century.
Scotland’s Gardens Open Day

Logan Botanic Garden
Nr Stranraer
Who doesn’t love a garden in spring? Especially an exotic one, and our region is home to arguably Scotland’s most exotic one: Logan Botanic Garden.
Thanks to the Gulf Stream’s glow, Logan basks in an almost subtropical climate, encouraging exotic plants from around the world to call Scotland’s south-western tip home.
And while you’re soaking up all its vibrancy and half-hardy perennials and other talking-point plants, you can raise funds for charities around the country.
Friendship Group
Wednesday 22 April
1pm – 3pm
Whithorn Community Centre
It’s not easy meeting new people, but a fun, friendly, organised event where everybody’s in the same boat surely helps. As does a cuppa or two as a social lubricant.
This ladies’ friendship group meet every Wednesday at Whithorn Community Centre, and you’re most welcome to join them.
FloralSteam Workshop
Tuesday 12 May
6 pm – 9:30 pm
Once you’ve made your own personalised wine – or whichever- glass, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. And that’s exactly what you can turn your hand to at the FloralSteam Workshop.
Personalise your own wine or gin glass, goblet or tumbler and never look back. There’s a range of materials and embellishments to create something completely you in this small, friendly group setting.
The Dalgarno Singers’ Spring Concert
Saturday 9 May
7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
The Dalgarno Singers put the cherry on top of the end of the season with two spring concerts that are bound to hit that sweet spring spot.
Among the highlights, the Choral Requiem Op 48 by Gabriel Fauré(.1845 – 1924) and an equally wonderful and varied supporting programme.
Ghost Hunt
Saturday 16 May, Sunday 17 May – 8pm to 2 am
Shambellie House
New Abbey
Who doesn’t love a good ghost hunt!
It’s an interactive, investigation-led evening inside a historic house where we would like to think that every room holds a spooky story!
Shambellie House dates back to the 1850s and stands among woodland just outside New Abbey.
Later becoming Scotland’s National Museum of Costume, it’s the perfect atmospheric setting once evening falls for ghostly goings-on!
We’re told that traditional ghost-hunting techniques – dowsing rods, pendulums, mirror work, trigger objects, and basic audio recording – will be used and that all are grounded in carefully researched history and local folklore.
Newton Stewart Walking Festival
8 – 15 May
Get some great big gulps of spring Dumfries and Galloway air into your lungs at the Newton Stewart Walking Festival!
It’s a week of guided walks and evening events exploring the wily hills, handsome coastline, mystical woodlands and rolling Galloway countryside.
