Headquartered in Stevenson, Ayrshire, James Frew Ltd is one of the largest privately-owned building services companies in Scotland, providing integrated property solutions, including plumbing, heating, mechanical services, electrical installation services, gas maintenance, and property upgrades for public and private sectors and it has just taken a unit at Heathhall Business Centre to coordinate the Dumfries division of the operation.
We spoke to Senior Contracts Manager Evan Peat to find out more.
Evan, 30, has been with the company since he was 16 and started out on a plumbing apprenticeship and he’s never looked back.
James Frew Ltd at Heathhall Business Centre
James Frew Ltd now occupies the former Caledonian VetPhys workspace at 3 Spitfire Road at Heathhall Business Centre, and this is a company that has some serious business credentials: 100-plus employees, over 150 clients, and it’s been in business since 1911!
That’s why we’re delighted to welcome James Frew Ltd to Heathhall Business Centre.
Said Evan: “It’s an office with a workshop storage facility with a yard at the back. We moved into the office in January and it’s been a really seamless process and everything worked out really well and we’re just about to get our signage up.”
Heathhall Business Centre: the perfect location
“We are looking to build the profile of business in Dumfries as a local division of company and Heathhall Business Centre is the perfect location for our Dumfries divisional headquarters, right next to road and transport links as we expand our focus on our local presence. People also use the industrial estate as a through road so the business gets lots of visibility.
“We know a few other businesses on the industrial estate like JJ Plumbing & Bathrooms and Charlie Lauder Transport so there’s a good business community feeling here too.
James Frew Academy
The business believes that in order to grow in the next 100 years, it needed to develop the skills, values and behaviours of its team to create the best technicians, managers and leaders in the industry, hence The James Frew Academy was born.
The Academy was established in 2017, in collaboration with West College Scotland, to educate its workforce in the James Frew way. This dedicated, high-quality teaching facility delivers a range of bespoke apprenticeship training, employee development and leadership and management programmes. The company’s flagship training schemes are its SVQ 3 in Plumbing and SVQ 3 CITB Carpentry and Joinery programmes.
