William Duncan and wife Sophie head up marquee and event hire company Queensberry Event Hire – one of Heathhall Business Centre’s newest tenants. They’ve taken office space at unit 19c to accommodate their burgeoning business that was largely run from a warehouse on the family farm.
Heathhall: helpful to the hilt
The team at Heathhall aims to be helpful to the hilt when a new tenant arrives – as well as for all of the tenants all of the time too of course.
Said William, “The Heathhall team has been great. It was all done very smoothly. I know the person that had the office before me (Arthur at Corona IT) and he encouraged me to take a unit at Heathhall because he just loves operating his business from the Centre. He’s since taken another unit.

“We wanted a place where our clients could be in a comfortable office space and so we created a nice lounge area with a TV. We project onto it and then sit and draw the layout of marquee in the comfort of the office enabling us to make it just so for the client. Being at Heathhall has already helped immensely because we can plan the event in a friendly, welcoming, warm and presentable space that beats operating this side of the business out of a farm any day!”
William already has expansion at Heathhall Business Centre in his sights because he’s looking for extra storage space and is right now in discussions about his exact requirements.
William’s background in Sports Science
Thirty-seven-year-old William studied Sports Science at University in Edinburgh and in his time has worked with Scottish Rugby as a strength and conditioning coach as well as running his own business.
“I ran my own personal training and strength-conditioning business in Australia for five years. I gave up Gave up Bondi Beach for Heathhall!”
He used to play rugby. Now he watches it. He plays a mean round of golf though, when he gets the time in between the business and bringing up two wee ones.
The marquee hire business is in William’s blood
The marquee hire business is in William’s blood and it was this family-business-calling that was what really lured him back from Australia.
“My uncle had a marquee hire business when I was younger and I often worked with him. In fact, I nearly left university to work him with full time.
“So you might say that it’s always been nagging at the back of my mind and this is why I came back to start the business in 2013.
“I love the outdoors and being in different places – whether that’s building a marquee in the Lake District, The Highlands or The Borders. Not going to same place every single day is great and you see so many different types of people, and Heathhall Business Centre is the ideal base for it all.”
